Summer is here

Well summer is here again and I have been moving plants around and clearing out some plants that have doubled or have become to large. I have managed to so far find new homes for the plants that I have been removing. A lot of them have gone to neighbors and the church next door to me. I love this because I can still enjoy them and see them each day. I have also met two new friends from the church  who are fellow gardeners that share their gardening knowledge and skills with me. here are a few pictures of whats going on right now in my garden.

Home made Topiary

people still keep steeling all of my flowers and usually before I get to take a photo of them. I am going to have to dig up my entire front yard and move as much as possible to the back yard. It is hard blogging every day about my little yard so I am going to start blogging about plants in general as well as my garden.

Now my lilacs are in bloom along with violets, snap dragon, strawberries, clematis, and getting ready to bloom are my poppies, roses, centaurea, and spirea.

Tortoise or turtles

I have always referred to my red eared sliders as turtles and in all the years of owning and keeping red eared sliders I had to take one to a vet for the first time. I was concerned about one turtle that looked a little bloated to me so I took it in to have it checked out. Turns out she is alright and very healthy. While at the veterinarians office I was told that Ethel was a tortoise and not a turtle. Turtles I was told have a hinged shell that can close when the turtle pulls itself in for protection tortoises do not have a hinged shell and their shells are formed differently. I was always told turtles were aquatic and tortoises were non aquatic. I do take my red eared sliders out side when the weather permits so that they can get plenty of sunshine and fresh air. They eat pelleted Aquatic turtle food and fruits vegetables and berries. Right now I have 4 of then and they are named Fred, Ethel, Ricky, and of course Lucy.

Great spring day

It was warm and sunny today but I did not feel like doing any yard work. I sat in the sun to catch some rays like my Doctors want but just did not feel like staying out side so I did not enjoy the spring day as much as I would like to.

Frost Warning

They are calling for a frost warning tonight so I covered my tomatoes and peppers. Next week is supposed to get warmer.

Today was a really nice day out but still having trouble with people stealing my flowers. I moved the tulips but now people are stealing my daffodils. I decided to plant some climbing rose bushes along the top of my stone wall and let them fill in and spill over the edge to keep people out of the other plants and stay off the wall. I fell into one of the rose bushes and got all scratched up but I guess that's the price we pay to have a nice garden. Will post some pics of the roses after they have a chance to settle in and get established.
